Patrick J. Yam, CEO of Somnology, had the opportunity to speak with Arianna Huffington, CEO of the Huffington Post, after her speech at The Power of Sleep Conference on April 13th, 2016. Arianna Huffington is a big advocate of sleep as seen in her article, “A Sleep Revolution Will Allow Us to Better Solve the World’s Problems“.
Our top three takeaways from Arianna Huffington’s speech on The Power of Sleep:
- We should be greater aware of sleep and its benefits; no longer should sleep remain a secondary consideration.
The adverse impact of sleep on comorbidities such as obesity, Alzheimer, diabetes and, cardiac related disease dictate that one should be aware of and, alerted to monitor their sleep character.
- Sleep heightens athletic productivity.
In the Huffington Post article, “How Andre Iguodala Fixed His Sleep Game“, written by Tyler Kingkade, Iguodala states … “Sleep good, feel good, play good”.
- The current educational system needs reformation to allow students to gain more sleep for greater academic proficiency.
Sleep affects every aspect of our daily lives, including memory retention and comprehension. In order for students to get the most of out their education, quality sleep needs to be a strong consideration.
Patrick spoke with Arianna about the importance of tracking sleep to help identify issues that could be associated with sleep disorders and inconsistencies. Somnology’s mission is to gain a better understanding of sleep patterns and analyze user data to help individuals identify, and track, potential sleep issues and sleep disorders. We also aim to provide people with important information about sleep so they can recognize the impact sleep has on the body and mind.
The free MobileSleepDoc Pro app, available in the iTunes store here, is the first of Somnology’s products developed to help individuals track their sleep and answer questions that can be shared with their sleep doctors to identify potential sleep issues or sleep disorders. The next, more comprehensive, sleep tracking product from Somnology is the Plex® Sleep Scanner.
The Plex® Sleep Scanner is a new wearable device that uses medical grade sensors to track and analyze breathing patterns, pulse, and oxygen levels during sleep. The Plex® Sleep Scanner will integrate with MobileSleepDoc pro to allow users to share this detailed information with a sleep specialist to determine the best course of action for getting better sleep.
